2 BLUE EYES! The red tri or red merle coloration is caused by the recessive red gene. That is why there are less reds seen for sale.
The only way a red tri or red merle can be produced is if both parents have received a red gene from their parents who are either red dogs, or have red parents.
Adopting a puppy is a serious experience, as this breed often lives to 15-16 years of age. We evaluate the DNA of every breeding dog to be sure they are not passing on debilitating disorders that can shorten the offsprings' lifespan.
People often are confused as to why we call a brown dog, "Red". In the Miniature American (Australian) Shepherd breed, any color of brown is called "Red". That can be colors such as rust, cocoa, dark chocolate, auburn, milk chocolate, etc.
Our puppies are raised right in our home where they get constant human attention. They become accustomed to all the "house" noises, such as the vacuum, TV, clock chimes, plastic bag opening, and unfortunately, on rare occasions when I don't pay attention to my cooking, the smoke detector.
Boy puppies vs. Girl puppies... Hmmm... Which is the best companion? It is our firm opinion that there is not much difference between them if they are neutered or spayed. Girls can be somewhat independent thinkers and a bit more stubborn, but are still very affectionate. Boys are incredibly devoted and often more willing to please.
Why are tails docked? Many years ago, rhe natural bobbed tail gene was very prevalent in the breed. Because of that, official breed standards were adopted to require that the tail be no longer than 4", hence, requiring docking in dogs who were born with long tails.
Do we remove dew claws? Yes. We feel that leaving the dew claws intact is an accident waiting to happen. Getting the dew claw caught on something, is very painful and ultimately ends in having it amputated anyway.
"Maizey" is going to her new home in Tennessee. Her family is already part of the Rocking 2R extended family, having adopted one of our puppies previously. We are thrilled to be able to place another puppy in their loving home.
